Help! My Garbage Disposal Won’t Turn On After GFCI Replacement

I recently had to replace the GFCI safety switch because it was malfunctioning, and everything else is working fine now. However, my garbage disposal still won't turn on, even though the outlet has power. I've tried resetting the GFCI, the breaker, and the disposal itself, but nothing seems to work. I also used an Allen wrench to try and move the blades, but that didn't help either. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Thanks!

First, try using an extension cord to plug your disposal directly into a different outlet. If it works there, it could be an issue with your outlet under the sink. Just a heads up, if that outlet isn't working at all, that might be the main problem!

It actually did work when I plugged it in somewhere else, so I’m guessing the problem is the outlet under the sink. I also noticed my dishwasher is dead too, so maybe it’s all connected.

Yeah, sounds like the outlet might be the culprit then! Better check that wiring.

You might want to check if the outlet wires are connected correctly. A plug-in outlet tester could help determine if there’s anything wrong like reversed wires or an open neutral. Just because the outlet seems to be getting power doesn't mean it's wired correctly for the disposal.

I don’t have that tester, but the outlet itself was never really messed with. The only change was the GFCI safety outlet, which shouldn’t affect that one.

It’s worth checking just in case. You’d be surprised how much wiring can impact things.
