Help! My Kitchen Faucet Leaks After Removing the Aerator – What Should I Do?

Asked By CuriousCook92 On

I've got a kitchen faucet that's leaking because the head part where water comes out was the source of the problem. I removed it (and maybe not so smartly tossed it out), which stopped the leak, but now the water just sprays out super forcefully because there's no aerator. I tried getting a few different sizes of aerators from the hardware store, including a universal one, but none fit my faucet. Is there a way I can remove the flexible part and bring it to the store to find a match? I don't know the brand since the faucet came with the house, and I can't find any labels or warranties. I just want a basic aerator to fix this—am I going to have to buy a whole new faucet?

Honestly, if it turns out to be a Moen, you'll run into issues since they have unique fittings. Universal aerators typically won’t fit their models properly. You might want to explore the idea of identifying your faucet first if you can before buying parts.

How can I check if it's a Moen if there’s no branding? Is there something specific I should look for?

Yeah, Moen is notorious for complicating things! ?

You could check out aerator.com and look for the specific model of your faucet, if it helps. If it's a Moen, they might have something for you. If you’re still stuck, taking a photo and using Google Lens could give you some leads on the brand!

If you can’t figure out the brand, it's probably best to hope for a replacement rather than spending too much time looking for parts that might not even exist! No-name faucets often don’t have easy replacements, so you could end up frustrated.
