Help! My Lightbulb Broke Off in the Socket – What Should I Do?

Asked By CuriousCat93 On

I accidentally broke my lightbulb in the bathroom ceiling fixture while trying to remove it, and now the metal part is stuck in there. The light has a pull chain switch, but I can't tell if it's on or off. I'm worried about getting electrocuted since the breaker box has no labels for the circuits. Should I just switch off the main power to be safe?

Yeah, turning off the power is the safest bet! You can either switch off the breaker for that circuit or just turn off the main power to be extra cautious. Also, it might be a good idea to pick up a non-contact voltage tester for future situations like this – super handy!

Thanks for the advice!

Definitely switch off the main breaker if you're unsure! Once that's done, you can take some time to label your breaker box. It's pretty simple: just turn on one breaker at a time and see which lights or outlets are affected, that way you’ll know what goes where!

I have no idea how to label it... how do I figure out which breaker does what?
