Help! My Portable AC Ruined My Hardwood Floor – Can I Fix It?

Asked By SunnyDayz23 On

I recently moved into a new rental and set up a portable AC unit. I didn't realize it would drain so much water, and now, just two days in, my hardwood floor is showing signs of damage. There's some blackness at the edges and the wood is raised. Is there any way I can fix this myself?

It sounds like your portable AC is leaking water, which can definitely cause some serious floor damage. For the black stains, you might be dealing with mold, so getting that treated is important. A good first step is to dry out the area completely. You can use fans or dehumidifiers. For the raised edges, if you’re comfortable doing some repairs, you might try to carefully sand those down and refinish the area. Just be sure you address the moisture issue to prevent it from happening again!

Definitely don’t forget to check under your AC unit too, sometimes those just need a good cleaning to avoid future leaks!

I’d recommend reaching out to your landlord about this too. They might be responsible for repairs, especially if the AC unit was already there when you moved in. But if you want to tackle it yourself, make sure you have some fans running and maybe use a mold remover for the black spots. Just take it slow and keep an eye on the area!

Good point! It's always best to check what the lease says about repairs. You might be covered!
