Help! My Stanley 71 Router Plane Screw Won’t Thread Properly

I'm really frustrated with my Stanley 71 router plane! I recently replaced the thumbscrew for the collar, and while it fits, it doesn't hold the iron in place. Whenever I tighten it, it just slips out. Do different models or years of the Stanley 71 have different threading? How can I figure out the right one for my plane, or is there another solution?

It sounds like you might have stripped threads in the collar. One option is to drill it out and tap it for a larger bolt. Alternatively, you could buy a replacement collar from sites like Woodyah. I had to do this for my own Sargent router plane when its collar stripped, and it worked out well for me!

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I'll give drilling a new hole a shot, but I'll keep that replacement link handy just in case.
