I'm in a bit of a panic here. My 16-year-old accidentally spilled acetone nail polish remover on our wooden dining table, and it caused some noticeable damage. I jumped into action with a baking soda and petroleum jelly treatment based on a quick Google search, but it seems like it didn't really help. This table is very important to our home, and while I'm a mom of three boys and not overly picky about upkeep, I really want to try to fix or at least diminish the damage. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! This all happened just a few hours ago.

If the clear coat is damaged, you're probably looking at sanding and refinishing the table. It's not the easiest fix, but it can be done. You might also consider just covering it up with a nice tablecloth for now!
Honestly, you might want to make the kid who spilled it learn how to sand and refinish the table. It’s not super complicated, just takes some time! You'll need to sand down the damaged area and then stain it to match the rest of the table, but it’s a good learning experience.

Great idea! So would I need to sand the entire table to match, or just the affected area?
