I've been having issues with my toilet – the tank started overflowing unexpectedly, causing quite a mess on the floor! Can anyone share advice on what I should check or fix inside the tank to resolve this problem?

The first thing you should do is turn off the water supply to the toilet. This will stop the flooding while you figure out what's wrong. It's also a good idea to check for any loose bolts and gaskets that connect the tank to the base. Those can be the culprit for leaks, but a sudden overflow like this is curious. You can usually find replacement parts at your local hardware store.

Make sure to check the fill valve and the flapper inside the tank. Sometimes, if the fill valve is malfunctioning, it can cause the tank to fill too much and overflow. If everything looks good there, but the leak is coming from the handle area, it might be worth looking into the handle mechanism itself.
