I'm in the process of replacing the wax seal on my toilet, but I'm running into a bit of an issue. The standard wax ring I bought has an outer diameter of about 5 inches, while my toilet flange is around 7 inches in diameter. When I try to place the wax ring on the toilet base and then onto the flange, the ring fits inside the flange's inner diameter without compressing at all. Additionally, the flange sits on tile and there's a height difference of about 1.5 to 2 inches before it meets the drain pipe. Given that the drain pipe itself is 4 inches wide, I'm wondering if there are larger wax rings available or if I need to find a way to compress the wax ring before putting the toilet back in place. Any advice would be appreciated!

Wax rings usually don't cover the flange entirely until they're compressed. If you're dealing with a low flange, a thicker wax ring might be what you need. But if your flange is already high, make sure to place the toilet directly on the wax ring to compress it while keeping everything lined up!
Thanks for the tip! I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'low' flange since mine is raised above the floor. How can I ensure the wax ring compresses properly? I worry it won’t seal right since the bottom of my toilet doesn’t even touch the drain pipe yet.
