Hey everyone! I accidentally damaged a branch on my walnut tree with a forklift, and now the tree is leaking water or sap from the wound. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but a gardener said it might be dying. We made a clean cut below the break, but it's still leaking a lot. Should we just let it be, or is there something more we can do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First off, don't stress too much! Trees are pretty resilient and have their own ways of healing. A clean cut will definitely help the walnut tree recover. If it's springtime and the sap is flowing, this is pretty normal. You can actually collect that sap to make walnut syrup if you're interested! Just try not to worry too much about it.
Yeah, make sure the cut is near the trunk to really help it heal up. That way, it'll have a better chance of recovery!
I had a similar experience with my walnut tree a few years back. After cutting a branch in winter, it dripped sap for a while too, but the tree is totally fine now. Sometimes these things take time, so be patient! Your gardener might be a bit too quick to judge.
That’s such a relief to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Isn't walnut syrup a cool idea? I might just put a bucket under the leak and see what happens!
