Hey everyone,
I need some help with my Whirlpool dishwasher (model WDF540HAMZ2). It's been acting up lately and I'm not sure what's wrong. It fills with water, then just sits there for a while before draining and repeating this a few times. During this whole process, the spray arms aren't working at all — I even put a cup inside to see if it would fill with water, but it was completely dry at the end. The inside is warm after the cycle, so I know the heating element is fine.
I've checked and cleaned the filter and spray arms thoroughly, and they're not clogged. I also confirmed that the float switch moves freely. I even tried resetting the dishwasher by turning off the circuit breaker for 10 minutes, but it didn't help. From what I've read, it sounds like the circulation pump might be the problem. I really want to avoid pulling the dishwasher out myself if I can.
Has anyone experienced similar issues with a Whirlpool dishwasher? Any DIY advice would really help. Thanks!

It definitely sounds like the circulation pump might be the culprit here. If it’s broken or clogged, that could explain why your spray arms aren’t working. I’ve tackled a similar issue before and getting to the pump wasn’t too difficult. Just make sure to check if it’s clogged—especially if the dishwasher has ever run without the filter.
**Edit:** I had a video on this for a different model, but your model may have some differences. Let me know if you need help finding resources!
I really appreciate the info! Just what I needed.

That all makes sense! Do you have a link to that video?
