Help Needed: Best Design for a Compost Box?

Asked By CompostCrafter42 On

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a compost box to move my compost pile into, and I'm considering using some pallets I have lying around. I'd love to hear any design ideas you might have or get answers to a few questions. Should I leave the sides open with wire mesh, or close them with plywood? And for the bottom, is it better to leave it open to the soil or put it on bricks? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just built a compost box using four pallets and added hinges to one of them for easy access. The pallets I chose were close together, around 2 inches apart, which is perfect because it lets in plenty of air. When things start to heat up, just open the door, turn the pile occasionally, and close it up again after!
