Help Needed: Fishing Wire Through My Ceiling Isn’t Working!

I'm trying to fish some wire through my ceiling, but it's turning into a bit of a nightmare. The fish rods keep sagging and getting caught on the wood cross beams since the path isn't a straight shot. I've attached some pictures for reference. I've attempted to fish from both sides, but I keep hitting the same snag, whether I'm using fish rods or fish tape. It just ends up getting stuck and curling up. I've also tried throwing the rods tied to a string, but the space is too cramped to get far. Any tips on how to tackle this?

Have you thought about using a weighted pull string? Drop a small weight at the end of a string, then pull it through to start fishing the wire—sometimes a little weight can help navigate tricky spots better.

Just curious, what size are the access holes you're working with? Sometimes just a bit more space can avoid those snags!

I feel your pain! If you can't get a direct line, consider adding a second access point if it's feasible. That might let you work around the beams more easily. Another trick is to use a vacuum with a small bag to 'suck' the line through if you can feed it into one side!

Sounds like you're dealing with a tricky ceiling! One thing that might help is checking the size of your access holes. If they're not big enough, it can cause all sorts of issues with fishing wires. Maybe try to make the holes a bit larger if you can, or even look into using a flexible rod that can navigate those beams better. Sometimes a different angle can make all the difference too!

That's a good suggestion! Also, try using a fish tape that has a bit of stiffness—it can handle curves better than softer rods. Just make sure to go in slowly and keep an eye on how it’s bending. You might get lucky!
