I'm working on a wooden Rubik's Cube project and would love some guidance. I'm planning to use the inner mechanism of a standard cube but want to replace the plastic pieces with wooden ones. My main challenge is finding the right wood grain, stain, and finish combinations for each side of the cube to ensure they are clearly distinguishable, similar to the colors on a regular Rubik's Cube. Can anyone suggest six effective combos that contrast well with each respective color? Any help is truly appreciated; this community has always been supportive!

For your wooden Rubik's Cube, I’d recommend using a single type of wood like maple and applying different dyes for each face. This way, you’ll achieve great contrast without risking the sides looking too similar. Alternatively, check out places like Woodcraft or local stores for small pieces of various wood types. You can get six distinct species that will look amazing and be easy to differentiate.
Great idea about the dye! To achieve an elegant appearance, you can control the color impact based on how much dye you use. Just be careful with the application, as a little can go a long way! If you're looking for subtle colors, testing on scrap wood first would be wise to avoid any unexpected bold colors like Warhol's work. Good luck with your project!
