Hey everyone! I'm looking to create some mosaic-style coasters using broken ceramic pieces, but I'm new to this whole DIY thing. I have a couple of questions: What's the best kind of base to use for these coasters? Should I go with a tile, a regular coaster, or maybe a piece of wood? Also, how do I attach the ceramic bits to the base? I'm guessing I'll need some sort of heat-resistant glue, but I've also thought about using a filler material. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like a fun project! If it's for pots and pans, you might want to think of it as a trivet. For your base, I'd suggest using wood like plywood. You can apply a layer of thin-set adhesive, then arrange your ceramic pieces on top and grout in between them. It'll help keep everything intact. Adding some small molding around the edges can give it a nice finish. And don't forget to put some feet on the bottom to keep it stable!
Great idea! Last year I made coasters with ceramic tiles and used Mod Podge for the adhesive, sealing the bottom with a thin cork sheet for extra grip. It helped a lot with sliding and scratching on surfaces like glass. I found that cork holds up much better than felt pads, so if you're making a few for gifts, that's a solid choice!
That sounds perfect! I love the idea of using cork; I think it might really enhance the durability since I'm using special ceramic pieces. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the advice! I didn't realize the molding could help with the look and stability too!
