Help Needed: Managing a Deep Pond and Planning Planting

Hey everyone! We recently moved into a house with a super deep pond dug by the previous owners. It's not lined and is probably acting as drainage since we're close to marshland. We put a 4-meter ladder in, and it still didn't reach the bottom! The pond is completely overrun with yellow iris and is pretty shaded by nearby trees, making the water look quite brown. I want to thin out the irises and make it look healthier, but I'm a bit lost on how to approach it given the depth. I'd also love to add a weeping willow and some pond lilies, but I'm unsure how to do that since they'll just sink. Any tips would be appreciated, and I'm also considering adding a water feature like a statue later on!

How wide is your pond? If it’s really over 4 meters deep right off the bank, you might want to be cautious around it. Just keep safety in mind!

This sounds like a fantastic project! You might need a dinghy to get out there since it’s so deep. If you’re worried about safety, having a life ring nearby can be a smart move. Personally, I’d recommend checking out this nursery for advice on lilies in deep water: https://wetland-plants.co.uk/.
