Hey everyone! I just got a plot in a community garden, but I live in a small apartment with no natural sunlight, making it tough to keep plants alive. It's still snowing here in Canada, and the last frost is around May 1-10, with the first frost in October. I'm not sure if it's feasible to start seeds indoors given my limited space and light conditions. I'm looking for advice on:
1. Alternatives to starting seeds indoors—like if getting mature plants from a garden center in May is a good idea.
2. How people without a car usually manage their gardening logistics. Is it best to buy everything in one trip using a rideshare?
I feel like a community garden is perfect for my situation, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the logistics since my previous experience was in a rural area where gardening felt much easier. Thanks for any help!

Have you tried the milk jug seed starting method? It's a super affordable and easy way to get your seeds going without needing a lot of indoor space. But if you still want indoor setups, go with lamps and heat mats—they're a bit costly upfront, but definitely worth it for future seasons.
I’d suggest starting seeds indoors if you can, even with the upfront costs. It’ll save you money in the long run. You’ll need sterile potting mix, seed trays, and maybe a grow light. I kept mine simple with a couple of trays and one lamp, and it worked out fine! But remember to start small so it doesn’t get overwhelming!
Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely considering that route. I just don’t want to end up with too many plants!
You can choose seed varieties that are great for direct sowing in May! Depending on your last frost, May seems early enough for that. Just remember some crops might take longer than others, so manage your expectations for a summer harvest. Also, check for varieties that thrive in your local climate; might help ease those worries!
Good point! For direct sowing, what kind of veggies would grow best? It sounds a bit risky since I've only done indoor seed starts before.

Milk jug starting sounds cool! I’ll look into it. Just trying to avoid making things too complicated!
