Hey everyone, I'm mainly a power tool user but I've decided to dive into hand tools. I've picked up a 5 1/2 plane, a honing guide, a diamond plate with grits of 300/1000, a 3000 whetstone, and both a 6000 and 18000 glass stone. I've managed to get the blade sharp enough to shave hair and slice paper, and I can get nice curls on red oak and pine. However, I'm having a bit of trouble: only the middle of the blade seems to be getting shiny when I sharpen it. I first thought it might be because I'm applying too much pressure in the middle, so I tried focusing on the edges to see if that would help, but no luck. I also checked the stone for flatness using the 300 grit side of my diamond stone, but the results haven't changed. I just want to understand what's going wrong, as it's been bugging me a bit. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

It would really help if you could share some pictures of the blade. That way we can pinpoint what's going on with your sharpening technique. Just drop a photo or two when you get a chance!

Here's a pic of what I'm working with! It’s the best I could do. I've got a 30° micro bevel with a 25° primary.
