I discovered a persistent leak from my bathtub despite replacing all the fittings, faucets, and seals. After removing the old caulk and doing a complete recaulk, the leak is still happening, specifically when water hits the side where the tiles are. I'm concerned that cracked grout on the shower tiles might be contributing to the problem. Can anyone provide tips on how to properly address this leak or repair the potential grout issues? You definitely have cracked grout and that can allow water to seep through. To fix it, you'll need to remove the old caulk, clean the area well, and possibly re-caulk. Remember, the wall behind your tiles needs to be waterproof too; otherwise, you're just putting a band-aid over a bigger issue.
It sounds like you've got a bigger issue if water is leaking from behind the tiles. No amount of caulk will fix structural problems. Also, check how level your tub is; I've seen old houses like yours where the tub settles and water drains out due to unevenness. Given the age of your home, it's worth investigating further.
