Hey everyone, I'm hoping to get some insights on a water stain that recently appeared on my kitchen ceiling. It's located near an outer wall that faces the backyard, and the room above it is one of our extra bedrooms. I had an HVAC technician take a look to see if it might be condensation from a duct nearby, but that doesn't seem to be the case. We've had some heavy rain lately, which I think coincides with when the stain showed up, but I can't confirm it. The stain is around 3 inches wide and 6 inches long, oval in shape.
I'm reaching out to some local handymen to see if they can open up the drywall to properly diagnose the issue. I'd love any advice or insight you can offer, as I want to avoid situations like I had before where I was charged for an HVAC visit that wasn't productive. Thanks a lot!

I totally understand your frustration! We had a similar stain in our kitchen during the summer, and it turned out to be condensation from our HVAC ductwork. To fix it, we were advised to either use a dehumidifier near our HVAC system or keep the bathroom exhaust fan running during super humid days. It helped a lot!
But considering your HVAC guy didn’t think that was the cause, it might be something else. Just make sure to keep an eye on how it reacts to the weather—sometimes that can help pinpoint what’s going on.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I thought it might be the condensation too, especially since my bathroom fan drips a bit during hot days. What did you do to resolve the stain? Did you have to replace the drywall?
