Every time it rains, a sewer smell pops up in my master bedroom and bathroom. I can't smell it myself, but my girlfriend has noticed it, and even a gas company technician caught a whiff when we suspected a gas leak. Recently, I replaced the shower drain line and P-trap because there was a lot of buildup, and I also added an air admittance valve (AAV) to the master sink. Interestingly, the smell is isolated to the master area, unlike the kitchen or guest bath. I've checked the crawlspace for leaks and found nothing. We're on a septic system, and my girlfriend believes the shower isn't the source. Would appreciate any advice! By the way, our 1500-gallon septic tank was pumped around two years ago when I moved in.

Have you had your septic tank pumped recently? It’s a good idea to keep that in check, especially if it wasn’t emptied in a while. Could be causing that smell!

Yeah, I had mine pumped when I moved in two years ago, and it was about 80% full at that time.
