Hey everyone! I'm completely new to gardening and I've just bought a bunch of bare root perennials from Farmer Gracy, all of which are fully hardy. I've potted most of them, but I planted a peony directly into the ground. I've placed the pots in spots where they will eventually go in the garden, according to whether they're shade-tolerant or not. However, I'm a bit concerned about whether the pots are too small since the roots are already touching the sides or bottom.
With a tight budget, I can't buy larger pots, so I'm wondering if it's better to keep them in the smaller pots throughout the summer and plant them in the fall, as suggested, or if they would thrive better going directly into the ground now. I understand that summer isn't the best planting time for many plants. Also, I think I may have planted some a little crooked since I had trouble finding the crown... are they doomed? Any extra tips for these plants to help them thrive would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! 😊

I totally relate! I did the same and a few of mine have sprouted nicely in the pots. I’m planning to wait until they have some better growth before planting them in the ground. I bought a bunch, too, and honestly, if half of them make it, I’ll be thrilled. Let’s see how it goes!
Honestly, I’d say just plant them straight into the ground. It's warm enough now, and with proper watering, they should do great! Just try to make sure they’re not crammed in a crowded area competing with other plants. Keeping up with your watering is key, especially during the summer heat! Good luck!
I recommend getting them all in the ground ASAP! It’s been warm, so they should handle it fine, plus they’ll establish better when planted. Just keep them well-watered!
Totally with you! I can't wait to see them grow!
