Hey everyone! I recently bought a DeWalt DWD1007 after using Makita LXT hammer drills for years. I love how smooth the 1007 is while lowering my plywood with my ceiling lifts, but I'm facing a problem when lifting— the chuck keeps slipping. I've tightened it multiple times, so much that it's hard to loosen, yet it keeps slipping. My Makita didn't have this issue at all. Is there a trick to tightening the chuck on the 1007? Also, is it normal that the shiny metal ring on the nose spins freely? I seems different from my Makita. Thanks for any help! - Mike

The chuck slipping is definitely frustrating! One tip that could help is making sure you’re not tightening it too much at first; it might be binding. Try giving it a good twist at the start before you start your work. And if you're still unsure about that ring, mention it when you return the drill, they can clarify whether it’s functioning as it should! Also, sometimes just using it more will help break it in properly.
It sounds like you might be dealing with an anti-rotation clutch issue, especially if you're lifting something heavy. Sometimes, the clutch can engage if it senses too much torque. Have you noticed any indicators on the drill, like a red light? If it’s holding now but slipped before, it might just have needed a few uses to get everything seated right. As for that shiny ring on the chuck, it can vary by model. Some are designed to spin freely, so that part might be normal! Just keep an eye on it while you test it out again.
Yeah, I think it’s just a matter of getting used to how it operates. Just make sure you’re not over-tightening it; that could be part of the problem too! And yeah, that ring is usually fine to spin; just check it out if it starts slipping again.

Agreed! Sometimes a new chuck just needs a little time to settle in. And for the ring, if it keeps slipping even after trying these tips, definitely take it back and see what they say!
