Help with My Patchy Lawn: Any Tips?

Hey everyone! I'm really struggling with my lawn. It's super patchy, and despite my efforts to re-seed last year and again this year, I've had no luck. I've prepped the ground carefully, watered it regularly—about once a week—and aerated the whole area. I seeded it, and while some spots have grown well, a lot of it just didn't take at all. I even tried using some leftover turf from a friend, but that's dying off too. We do have a dog, but I kept him off the lawn for about eight weeks. The whole lawn is looking patchy and is covered in thatch, and I'm starting to think I might have a fungal or insect issue since I found some grubs while edging. Is there anything I might be missing or any advice you could offer? Thanks!

Have you considered the type of grass seed you’re using? It’s crucial to choose the right one for your lawn type. Also, raking out the thatch before seeding can make a big difference. You want to make sure you're watering enough to soak it through rather than just sprinkling the top. Early morning watering is best so the grass isn't sitting wet all night.

That makes sense! I did water daily and used compost, but I think watering at night might have contributed to the problem since we have heavy clay soil.

It sounds like the watering issue might be part of the problem! I usually water new seeds every day, especially during dry spells. Weekly watering might not be enough, especially if it's been really dry. Try to keep the soil consistently moist to help the seeds germinate better!

Thanks for the tip! Just to clarify, I watered weekly before seeding to keep the soil moist. After I seeded, I switched to daily watering for about three weeks but then reduced it.
