Home Depot’s Pipe Cutting Pricing: What’s the Deal?

I recently found out that Home Depot charges by the foot if you ask them to cut a long pipe into shorter pieces. I was told that while a 10ft metal pipe is around $25, they'll charge about $7 per foot if I want it cut into two 5' sections. This means I'd end up paying $70 just for the cuts! Is this a new pricing rule? Has anyone else experienced this? Also, is Lowe's following suit with similar policies?

I haven't had that pricing issue, but for pipe clamps, you really only need one end threaded. If you're up for it, buy that 10ft pipe and use a pipe cutter or hacksaw to cut it down to size yourself. If you do have to deal with Home Depot's cutting service, remember, you don't need all those ends threaded—it's usually just the two ends that come threaded. Good luck!

I did a bit of research, and it looks like Lowe's still offers free cutting services. If the pricing at Home Depot is a pain, you could try cutting the pipe yourself; pipe cutters are pretty handy and not too hard to get. It might save you some bucks!

It sounds like the associate might've just been having a rough day. You might want to check with someone else, just to be sure. You only really need one end threaded anyway, so getting that 10ft pipe and cutting it yourself with a hacksaw could save you a lot. Also, if you're planning on doing a lot of these, a pipe threader from Harbor Freight is pretty affordable at around $45, which could be worth considering!
