How Are You Keeping Your Apartment Cool in This Heat?

Man, it's been sweltering lately! My apartment is really struggling to stay cool, even with a window air conditioning unit running non-stop in the living room. It's getting a bit cooler there, but the rest of my place is still roasting. For example, my kitchen is around 84 degrees, and it feels unbearable. I live in a 600 square foot space, and I'm worried about how high my electric bill will be with this AC working so hard. How do you cool down your homes? Any tips would be super helpful!

Have you got any fans to help circulate the air? That can make a big difference! Personally, I really like the Dreo brand for fans, they work great for me.

When the power went out the other night, I stacked ice packs behind my box fan, and it actually helped a lot! If you have ice packs lying around, this can be a quick fix for those hot nights.

Using big fans is a smart move! You should definitely try window fans at night when the outside air is cooler, and then be sure to close everything up in the morning to keep the heat out. If you're feeling adventurous, DIY swamp coolers can be effective too—just make sure you're in a low humidity area for them to work well!

Yeah, swamp coolers only work well if your humidity is low, so keep that in mind!

It sounds like your AC might not be up to the job, especially if it's struggling to cool even one room. Have you considered upgrading to a more powerful unit? Also, using window film can really help block out extra heat. Even though fans don't actually cool the air, they can make you feel more comfortable by helping with air circulation. Just remember, if it’s getting hot because of sunlight, that might be your main problem!

Totally agree! Solar gain from the sunlight is a common issue. Those room darkening accordion shades with the metal insert are a game changer for reducing heat build-up.
