How Bad Did I Mess Up My Caulk Gun?

So, here's the deal—I've really messed up with my caulk gun. I thought I had already punctured the inner seal while using some liquid nails, but it turns out I didn't, and then the bottom just blew out. I thought waiting for it to dry would help, so I waited 24 hours, but when I tried to wipe it off, it was still too gooey. Now the adjustable part of the gun is caked in a layer of liquid nails, and I'm left wondering if there's any way to salvage it. I've seen suggestions online about using mineral spirits or WD-40, but since I'm new to all of this, I'm not sure what to do next. The caulk gun only cost me about $20, but I'm too cheap to replace it if I can fix it instead. Any advice? Be gentle; I'm feeling a bit ashamed about this whole situation!

Honestly, just buy a new one. Your time is worth more than trying to clean this one up, especially since caulk guns are cheap. If you ever have a blowout again, just rinse it out right away—that helps a ton! But don’t go crazy with cleaning too if it’s just a low-cost tool.

Exactly! Unless you’ve got a fancy high-end model, just grab a new one for like $9. And when you do get a mess, washing it out right away is key, but avoid using a hose if you’re dealing with silicone!”},{

Your caulk gun is probably okay! Let the mess dry completely, and then you can scrape it off. Remember that a little glue or caulk isn’t going to stop it from working. Just embrace the fact that it might never be spotless again. It's part of using tools!

Honestly, don’t stress too much about it! Every caulk gun ends up a bit messy over time. Just clean off the excess if it bugs you, but as long as the mechanics work, it should be fine. It’s just a tool, and it’s gonna get dirty!
