How Bad is the Mold Situation in My Bathroom?

So here's the scoop: My bathroom got hit with a broken toilet, and in my attempt to replace the crummy linoleum tiles while it was out, I stumbled upon mold. It's lurking on the floor and the drywall after I yanked out the baseboards by the bath. We've got a little toddler to think about, so I want to tackle this properly, but I'm worried about the costs of a complete bathroom renovation. Can anyone suggest what my options are? Am I doomed to rip everything out?

First off, what type of subfloor are you dealing with? If it’s concrete, you can just clean it up. But if it’s plywood, you should cut out the bad section and replace it—it’s not too pricey! As for the drywall, yeah, you’ll want to remove that too, but replacing it isn’t a huge financial hit either. Just get comfortable with doing some drywall work. In the end, this could cost you a couple hundred bucks at most and maybe a few days of labor. At least you caught it early!

Thanks! The floor situation is wild—it’s like a lasagna, layers of pine hardwood, plywood, and linoleum piled on top of each other. I’ve already stripped the top layers off and was hoping to keep the lower plywood layer for new laminate. I’ll see how it looks once I get a better view.
