I had some replacement windows installed in my older home about two years ago, but the new windows didn't come with grilles. When I asked my contractor if I could add them later, he mentioned that these windows are designed with the grilles inside the glass pane, making it impossible to add them afterward. I'm looking for a better solution because the products I've tried online didn't work well – they were just cheap plastic pieces with weak adhesive. I'm aiming for the classic 6 over 1 grille look that my 100-year-old house originally had. Any suggestions? And just to clarify – I mean grilles, not grates!

It sounds like you’re in a bit of a pickle! Just to clarify – those grilles you're talking about are different than grates. You might want to check out some aftermarket solutions, but keep in mind that they might not look as authentic as true TDL or SDL windows. A local glass company might offer better options!
Hey there! I'm actually a window sales guy. If your windows are vinyl, you might be in luck! You can have a local glass company swap out the glass with what's called a glass pack that includes grilles between the glass panes. I've done this before for rentals and it can really upgrade the look!

Oh wow, that’s a great solution! Thank you!
