I've created a PVC conduit to pull a string that opens my gate from the outside. However, I'm running into an issue where the latch doesn't always engage automatically after the gate closes. Sometimes when the gate swings shut, it bounces off the latch and stays open. I've shared some pictures of my setup [here](https://imgur.com/a/qySlefM). I need some ideas on how to ensure the latch resets automatically when the gate closes. Any suggestions?

I noticed that the cord you're using to pull the latch might be a bit too stiff. If it's heavy like electrical wire, consider swapping it out for something lighter, such as a thinner string. This way, it can move freely without getting snagged. Alternatively, you might want to attach a weight to the same part of the latch that the cord is connected to. That could help pull it down after the latch is hit by the pin when the gate closes.
Try using a softer string and tying some knots in it to prevent it from pulling back through too easily. Adding a weight right where the string attaches to the latch might help too, ensuring it engages properly when closing.
Why not add a spring to your latch? This could help ensure that it resets automatically when the gate closes. I've seen setups where a spring mechanism works really well for this.
I hadn’t considered a spring before. I’ll definitely look into that option, thanks!

I had thought about using micro-line and possibly adding a fishing sinker at the end to help out. I'll give that a shot, thanks!
