How Can I Care for My New House’s Beautiful Garden?

I'm moving to a beautiful house that has a large, well-maintained garden, complete with a greenhouse and a variety of flowers and bushes. I'm excited about this change, but I've never had a big garden before—only a small lawn. I want to make sure I keep the garden in great shape like the previous owners did, but I need advice on how to take care of it properly. Any tips, resources, or book recommendations would be super helpful!

First off, don't stress too much! A garden is a living thing that evolves, and some plants will inevitably die or need attention. Just accept that you’ll learn as you go! You'll want to try different things, see what thrives, and maybe feel a bit overwhelmed during the winter. By the summer, you'll likely have a lot of growth to manage!

Check out "Gardeners' World" on BBC; it’s a great show that will guide you weekly through the seasons. Monty Don shares lots of practical tips. Plus, look into getting a good gardening book like Monty Don's—there are some that break down what you should be doing month by month! It’s all about gradual learning. Just remember, don’t compare your garden to ‘perfect’ gardens; focus on making yours thrive!

Consider starting with just mowing the grass and taking a watch-and-see approach for now. Identify any weeds, remove them, and look for guidance on pruning trees or hedges. If you have any specific doubts, share photos here for tips. Oh, and congrats on the new garden!
