I recently bought a house and discovered that one of the sprinklers is broken at the nipple elbow where it connects to the PVC pipe. There was no warning sign, and water was still spraying out from the nozzle. When I tried to adjust it, the entire head came loose and I found a large cavity, about the size of a soccer ball, underneath the PVC where the nipple had broken. If I hadn't touched it, I wouldn't have realized there was a leak, which could have led to a sinkhole. What are some signs I should look for to check for broken sprinklers? Thanks in advance!

Have you considered calling in a sprinkler technician? I used to DIY my system and it worked fine for years, but then it started underperforming. After messing with it myself for a while, I finally called a pro and he found a couple of heads that were leaking, which cost me around $100-$150 to fix. Now I get my system flushed and backflow tested annually for about $60. It’s great to have someone who can spot the issues quickly!

Totally! Replacing heads isn’t too hard, but knowing which one is broken can be tricky. Once you figure it out, it’s just digging a bit and swapping them out.
