How Can I Connect My Panasonic Answering Machine to My Laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm hoping this is the right place to ask for some advice. I need to transfer voice messages from my old Panasonic answering machine to my laptop to save them using Audacity. The answering machine has a 2.5mm headphone jack for output, but my laptop only has HDMI inputs and no phone jacks. I tried looking for a 2.5mm to HDMI cable, but it doesn't seem to exist. Is there any way to connect these devices? I suspect they use different formats or protocols, but I really need to get those messages transferred. I'd really appreciate any help, and please keep it simple since I'm not very tech-savvy. Thanks a lot!

You can solve this easily! Just grab a USB sound card and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable. Plug the answering machine into the sound card, and then connect that to your laptop via USB. It's a straightforward fix and works like a charm!

Thanks for clarifying! I'm planning to buy the sound card and the cable you suggested. Here's what I'm looking at: 1) [2.5mm to 3.5mm cable](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B9BPBDWG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2279P8W7PFV2T&th=1) and 2) [USB sound card](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DDCCC7RH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3V188PBTAA0Y2&psc=1). Does that sound right?

Before you buy anything, double-check that your PC actually has the right inputs for audio. If it doesn't, definitely get a USB sound card from Amazon. It’s simple! Just make sure you've got the correct cable to connect your answering machine to the sound card. You'll be good to go!
