How Can I Control Nutgrass in My New Flower Beds?

Asked By SunnyExplorer42 On

I recently moved into a new house, and I'm trying to get my backyard into shape. The flower beds are overrun with weeds, and while I've managed to pull most of them out, I'm struggling with nutgrass. I'm wondering if using a weed killer will harm the flowers I plan to plant later on. Any advice on how to tackle this issue?

When it comes to nutgrass, it really depends on the type of herbicide you choose. Some can stick around in the soil for a while, while others break down quickly. Make sure to check the label for information on how it’ll affect future plantings. It's also worth noting that the most effective way to tackle nutsedge is to dig up all the roots if you can. If you want to go the chemical route, a nutsedge-specific herbicide is your best bet, but just be careful with your future flowers!

Yeah, definitely read the instructions! I’ve used a generic weed killer before, and it was a pain figuring out what I could and couldn’t plant afterward.
