I'm trying to build a dryer for homemade small animal bedding using a rock tumbler style system. I've created one before, but it wasn't tumbler-style; I used a rotisserie motor and a shaft going through it. I want to maximize the space of my new containment unit and need suggestions on how to build a roller machine for this purpose. I really appreciate any advice, and I promise to share the finished product and a step-by-step account of the process, whether it works out or not!

Have you thought about just using a pet heating mat under the bedding instead? It’s safe, inexpensive to buy and run, and saves you from having to build something from scratch!
I'm not sure how well a rock tumbler would actually dry anything since they are typically water-tight. Maybe you should consider a design similar to a cement mixer instead for better airflow?

I'm actually planning to build an all-metal enclosure with a heating element and fans to force hot air into a metal drum filled with damp paper. It may sound a bit off, but the end product is similar to the expensive soft bedding sold in stores, and I make it for much cheaper! I just need help figuring out how to get the bucket to roll without using that bulky rotisserie motor.
