How Can I Cut 2x4s Without Buying an Expensive Miter Box Stand?

I'm trying to cut down 2x4s into smaller lengths (about 1 to 3 inches), and I bought a miter box for the job. However, using it directly on the floor has been a huge struggle, and I don't have any sort of stand or other tools. I'm considering clamping the miter box to a folding table I own, but I'm worried about stability. Using my dining table could cause damage, and I'm not sure if I have the strength to handle a hand saw either. What's the minimum amount of money I need to spend to cut this wood effectively without breaking the bank on a stand or additional gear? I feel stuck, and it seems like every power tool option requires either a pricey setup or a bunch of clamps, and my attempts at hand-sawing didn't go well at all.

You can screw the miter box to a couple of boards for stability, then clamp those boards to a couple of chairs. This way, you won’t have to invest in a stand. Just make sure to have it secure so it doesn't move around while you cut!

Is that for a miter saw or a miter box you're talking about?
