I've noticed that my garden has quite a few ant hills since it's been neglected for a while. I'm thinking about leveling the area but don't have access to many tools right now. What are some effective ways to get rid of the ant hills and smooth out the soil?

If you've got a rake lying around, that could help flatten things a bit. If not, just using your foot to spread and level the soil could work too! It's pretty straightforward; just make sure to clear out the bigger hills first.
If the ant hills are really bugging you, grab some bulk vinegar and pour it over those hills. Give it a couple of days, and then you can turn over the soil. It supposedly helps with getting rid of the ants!
I read that it's best to leave the ants be if you can. They actually support a healthy ecosystem in your garden and serve as food for birds like green woodpeckers. Just something to consider before taking drastic measures.
It’s that time of year when flying ants are out and about! If you knock down the hills now, they might just reappear overnight. You might want to wait a few weeks to see if some hills disappear on their own. But don't worry too much – they might not be as huge of a problem later!

Thank you! Had no idea it was flying ant season ?.
