How Can I Deal with Popcorn Walls in My New House?

I recently bought a house, and I've discovered that it has those old-fashioned popcorn textured walls that were so popular in the past. I'm really not a fan of the look. I see a few options for dealing with it: I could sand the walls (which sounds like a lot of work), or I could apply a light coat of spackle to smooth them out. Has anyone tried this method? Are there any issues with it? I'm also open to any relatively cheap and quick fixes if there are better alternatives. I just want to get rid of this texture!

I tackled a similar problem in one of my rooms where someone had carelessly applied it with a paint roller. I scraped off the highest points using a paint scraper and then skim-coated it with drywall compound before repainting everything. Just make sure to wipe off the dust after sanding the joint compound before you prime and paint. Honestly, it's way easier than dealing with a textured ceiling, trust me!

Ugh, my ceiling has that texture too! So you do sand the joint compound after applying? Is that just to even everything out? My walls are super wavy, and I was worried about how to flatten them. Glad to know I can level them with more material instead!
