Hey everyone! I'm a total newbie when it comes to woodworking—don't even have any tools yet—but I'm eager to build a simple and sturdy platform bed for myself. The main requirement is that it has about 13 inches of clearance underneath for storage, like for suitcases. Here are the specifics:
- Mattress size: Full
- Tools: Currently none, but I can get a drill/driver. No saws in my possession.
- Store access: I can visit Home Depot or Lowe's, and I've heard they offer lumber cutting services.
- Comfort level: I'm looking for a beginner-friendly design that includes a frame, legs, and slats or a panel.
Could you guys help me out with a few questions?
1. What's the simplest design that would still give me that 13" clearance?
2. How can I ensure the bed is sturdy and won't wobble?
3. Is there a standard cut list I can give to Home Depot?
4. Any tips for doing this without owning a lot of tools?
Thanks a ton! If you have photos or links to similar builds, I'd love to see them! ?

I suggest getting a saw, or at least a hand saw. While folks at Home Depot can cut your lumber, the precision might not be sufficient for furniture-making. If you have an existing bed, you might consider using bed risers to achieve the 13" clearance easily instead of a full DIY project.

Yeah, you could just buy risers for around $10, or even get a metal folding frame for about $75. If you still want a project, definitely grab a hand saw; they're pretty affordable!
