How can I effectively get rid of ground elder in my garden?

Hey everyone! I've recently bought a house, and the back garden is overrun with ground elder, which can grow to over a foot tall. I've been cutting it back and even using Roundup, but it just keeps coming back strong. I've dug up a significant amount, yet it's relentless. I really want to preserve the two rose bushes that are tangled in it, but I don't mind getting rid of everything else since the ground elder has already harmed most of the plants. Any solid advice on how to remove this pesky weed would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You might find it helpful to use a weed barrier fabric around your rose bushes and apply a thick layer of mulch to help suppress any regrowth. Continuously digging out the roots will aid in removal, but it's going to take some time and persistence to fully eradicate it.
