As a first-time homeowner, I'm looking to install gas lines for both a kitchen range and a dryer in my single-story home with a crawl space. We already have a gas meter outside. I'm seeking professional advice on the most efficient and cost-effective ways to do this, considering aspects like pipe routing (crawl space, exterior wall, attic), materials (black iron vs. CSST), minimizing labor time, and ensuring everything meets code (including permits and pressure tests). I want to find the best balance between safety, simplicity, and cost and would appreciate any tips on avoiding unnecessary work or inflated quotes. I got a quote for $20k, which seems way out of my budget. Thanks in advance for your insights!

I agree with others that $20k sounds high! What all did that quote include? That seems like a major markup for something so straightforward.
If you can, consider relocating the washer and dryer to the garage. It might save you a ton of money to run the gas line along the wall next to the meter. Also, while I understand the preference for gas, have you thought about switching to an induction stove? It's safer, cleaner, and can often save you in installation costs too!
Great idea! Moving the washer/dryer makes a lot of sense.
My advice would be to hire a professional plumber to handle running the gas lines through the crawl space directly to where you need them. They'll know the best ways to do the job safely and up to code without overcomplicating things.

Yeah, I mistyped the quote - it should be $20k for parts and labor, not $200k!
