Hey folks! I'm looking to spruce up my old Cape Cod home by adding a front porch, but I'm not quite sure where to start. I want something simple—no extensive changes like roof extensions—just ideas to make it look better and less lopsided. If this were your house, what would you do? I'd love any tips, creative ideas, or even some sketches! If you've built a porch yourself, sharing pics or lessons learned would be a bonus!

If I were in your shoes, I’d kick things off with a charming path leading up to the front door and maybe some short hedges or climbing plants along the walls. A little landscaping can really add character!
I totally understand where you're coming from! Capes can look like plain boxes without some character. You should definitely think about landscaping—adding flower boxes under the windows and some nice shrubs or flower beds will make a huge difference. Also, giving your porch a good power wash could help if you want to keep the natural wood look. A painted white porch could blend nicely with the wood. About the porch size, sticking to what you have is probably best, and maybe consider a stone walkway for that extra touch! Also, don’t forget that different siding on one side could really change the vibe, but that’s a bigger project.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’m definitely going to work on the landscaping, and I’ll consider the flower boxes. I was also wondering if I should extend the porch under the picture window for a bigger footprint or just freshen up what’s there. Your idea about the siding is intriguing!
