How Can I Ensure My Floor Can Support a Heavy Gun Safe?

I'm looking to buy a gun safe that weighs between 200 to 600 lbs to store my firearms. The safe would be placed on the main floor of my two-story ranch house, and while I want to bolt it to the ground, it's not absolutely necessary. My concern is whether my floor can handle the weight of the safe, especially since there's no heavy furniture currently upstairs—most is down in the basement. How can I verify if the floor structure can support such weight, and what approaches should I consider?

It sounds like you should be okay! If you and a couple of friends can stand on the floor and bounce a little without feeling any serious give or strain, that's a good sign your floors should handle the weight. I live in a pretty old house and have heavy items like my safes and a wood stove without any problems.
