How can I find a simple way to keep my plants alive without overwatering or ignoring them?

I struggle to maintain a healthy balance with my plants, either drowning them or forgetting about them altogether. I'm looking for some straightforward, practical methods or tips to help me create a solid watering schedule without investing in too many gadgets. Any suggestions from fellow plant lovers?

For me, I've got a pothos that lets me know when it's thirsty by droopy leaves. I usually ignore it until it makes a fuss, then I water it, and voila—the leaves perk right back up! It's the easiest plant I've cared for. I've had my share of succulents too, and they mostly died from my overwatering mishaps. If you want something easy, maybe give pothos a try!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the droopy-leaf system!

So true! Watching the leaves is key!

Just remember, a peace lily is great for reminding you when it needs water; they wilt dramatically to signal thirst. If you don’t mind having a couple of extra pots, keep a few of these around—they’ll help you gauge your other plants’ needs too!

I have peace lilies and they’re super helpful for me, too!

Try picking up the pots to feel their weight. If they're light, it's time to water. Also, look at the leaves; some plants get a bit droopy when they need more water. You could even use a wooden chopstick to check the soil moisture. Those are all methods I've used successfully!

I have over 75 plants, and I've set up a watering schedule—definitely helps me keep track! I adjust the schedule based on the plant types, but having that routine ensures they all get what they need without stressing too much about it. I use an app called Planta to help me remember!

I totally agree! Having a watering routine makes it way less stressful.

I’m going to check out that app, thanks!

Consider getting or making self-watering pots with wicks. They draw water from a reservoir into the soil, so if you tailor the substrate to your plants' needs, it can make life so much easier. It's a bit of trial and error, but it really helps with consistent watering. For example, I have various ratios of organic to inorganic soil for different plants, and they thrive!

Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to try this approach!
