How Can I Fix a Skewed Cut on End Grain?

I've been noticing that my cuts with a hand saw often come out skewed, especially on the end grain side of pieces like 2x4s. I'm concerned that if I try to plane it straight, I'll just end up ripping out the fibers near the edge. Is there a more effective technique I can use to correct this issue?

Using a shooting board with a sharp plane is a solid way to fix those skewed cuts. It might be trickier with soft woods than with hard woods, but it’s definitely doable. Just make sure your plane blade is really sharp for the best results!

This sounds like the right approach! I’ve had success with softer woods too, but my blade needed to be sharper than normal.

I’ll definitely give this technique a shot, thanks for the tip!
