How Can I Fix an Underground Downspout That’s a Tripping Hazard for My Toddler?

I have an underground downspout that leads to my front yard, but there's a hole at the end of it that's becoming a tripping hazard for my newly walking toddler. I'm looking for some advice on how to fix this issue. I live in the Upper Midwest.

Having raised kids, I can tell you that if your toddler trips in that area it’s likely not going to lead to serious injuries in that soft grass. But still, I totally understand why you want to fix it to keep things safe for your little one.

Little one tripped on it once going one way, and then retripped back and cried. So now I really have to do something about it, haha!

You might want to consider adding some rocks into that hole. It helps with compaction over time, so building it up a bit could prevent any further issues. It likely should have had rocks in it when it was built anyway.

A good solution is to install a pop-up drain that will sit flush with the ground. That way, when it rains, the water can still drain without causing a tripping hazard for little ones. It’s a neat way to keep your yard safe!
