How can I fix my door hinges that won’t hold?

I have several doors in my house that are hanging barely on their hinges, and some have even come off completely. I've tried different screws, #8 and #9, ranging in length from 1.5 to 3 inches, hoping the longer ones would catch in the wood behind the door frame, but they just keep spinning. Now, the screw holes are much larger due to all my attempts. To make matters worse, the original hinge installation was subpar, causing the doors to either self-close after being opened or not align properly with the strike plate. Plus, they're incredibly squeaky! I'm really at a loss, and since my home is only three years old, it's frustrating. I could really use some solid advice on how to permanently repair these doors.

Consider removing two out of the three screws on each hinge. Dip some toothpicks in wood glue, and stuff them into the holes until they're packed tight, then let it dry overnight. Once it's set, have someone hold up the door while you dip the screws in wood glue and reinsert them slowly. Make sure the hinge is snug in its mortise, and repeat the toothpick process for the third screw.

One effective method is to use Gorilla Glue and bamboo skewers. First, apply some glue to the skewer, mist it with water (to activate the glue), and pound it into the screw holes. After the glue sets, trim the skewers flush. This will give you a solid surface to drill new holes for your screws.

It sounds like your screws should have anchored into something more substantial. If it were me, I'd remove the trim to inspect what's behind the wall and check how thick the door frame is. It's crucial to ensure there's solid wood behind those hinges.
