How Can I Fix My Swollen MDF Desk?

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a bit of a situation here. My MDF desk has become swollen because a water-absorbing mouse pad was left on it. I usually keep it covered, but now that it's swollen, I'm trying to find a way to flatten that area. Is sanding it down a viable option, or is there a better method? Any advice would be appreciated!

Once MDF swells, it's pretty much a lost cause. You may get a temporary fix by sanding it down, but it could end up crumbling later. If you're feeling brave, go for it and see what happens! You've got nothing to lose at this point.

You can sand it down to shrink the swelling, but just know it’s never going to look the same. Also, when you seal it afterward, there's a chance it could swell again. It might take a few attempts to get it stable, so just be prepared for a little back-and-forth!

Honestly, once MDF gets wet and swells, there's not a lot you can do to save it. You might think about trying to sand it down a bit, but keep in mind that it won’t be perfect again. Best bet? You may end up needing to replace it altogether.
