Hey everyone! I have an electric dryer located in my basement while my apartment is on the third floor. The frustrating part is that my dryer randomly shuts off anywhere between 15 to 40 minutes into a 60-minute cycle, always before my clothes are fully dry. I've already had a repairman check it out, but he couldn't replicate the issue, and his fix didn't work. I'm looking for ideas on how to rig something that can alert me on my iPhone when the dryer stops. Any creative engineering suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to consider using a smart plug with energy monitoring. If the dryer stops drawing power, you can get an alert sent right to your phone. Just make sure the smart plug can handle the voltage for your dryer setup!
It sounds like your thermal overload switch might be malfunctioning or lint buildup could be causing issues inside the dryer. Have you checked for that? But if you're looking for a hack to monitor it, a baby monitor could work great! You just need to make sure it has long enough range to reach your apartment on the third floor.
A vibration sensor could be an effective solution! You can get one that’ll notify your phone when the dryer stops vibrating. I saw a good one recommended on YouTube—might be worth checking that out!
