I've discovered that my soil is infested with fungus gnats. I haven't planted anything in it yet, so I'm wondering if there's a way to eliminate the gnats and still reuse the soil, rather than just throwing it away. Any ideas?

Nematodes are a great solution! They're super effective against fungus gnats. Just keep in mind you might need to apply them a few times over the next few weeks. Also, consider using glue traps to catch adult gnats. And since you don't have any plants in the soil yet, you can sterilize it by baking it in the oven for about 10 minutes at 180°F, which should help as well.
Letting the soil dry out is another option. You can leave it outside for a bit; if it’s dry, the gnat eggs won’t have a good environment to hatch in. It's a simple method and avoids wasting your soil!
Mix diatomaceous earth in with your soil. Just remember to wear gloves and a mask while doing it, since it can be dusty. This stuff is crushed fossilized remains and will kill the gnats when they hatch. It's a solid method to get rid of them without tossing the soil.
