Hey everyone! I've got this situation where my child's drawing has claimed a spot on my wall for a few years now, and it's become impossible to paint over. I've tried using 2 coats of Kilz and several coats of a paint + primer mix, but it just doesn't work. I'm looking for any tips or tricks you might have to finally cover it up! A more controversial option is to just cut out the section of drywall with the drawing and patch it up. It could be a fun way to preserve the memory, and then you can just frame the cutout!
If you're feeling adventurous, a belt sander might do the trick. Just be careful not to damage the wall underneath!
You might want to try using Zinsser oil-based shellac primer. After that, just topcoat with regular paint. If that fails, consider cutting around the masterpiece with a utility knife, peeling away the paint, and leveling it out with some mud and sanding. You can then use a spray-on orange peel texture to match the existing finish before priming and painting over it.
